Dilation and curettage is a procedure that is done for evaluation and treatment of uterine bleeding as well as after a miscarriage. The cervix is gradually dilated and then a small instrument is placed inside to gently scrape the walls of the uterus. After a miscarriage, a suction device is also used to help empty the uterus.

  • IV sedation and local numbing medicine are used for patient comfort
  • The procedure lasts about 15-30 minutes
  • Cramping and spotting are normal for about a week after the procedure
